Creamy blue cheese dressing

Creamy blue cheese dressing is known for its rich, bold flavour and creamy texture. Traditionally it is made with mayonnaise, but mine uses Greek yogurt to create a lighter version that still feels indulgent. The Greek yogurt adds a natural tanginess, while the small addition of mayonnaise adds the creaminess to the dressing.

This simple homemade blue cheese dressing comes together in just a few minutes and tastes much fresher than most store-bought versions. It is perfect for drizzling over salads, serving along side crispy vegetables and of course a perfect compliment to the blue cheeseburger pasta salad new on my website.

How to make creamy blue cheese dressing

This dressing comes together so quickly.

Start by crumble the blue cheese in to a bowl. The size of your crumbles will determine how chunky your dressing will be. I prefer a chunky dressing, but if using for a dip, then a more smooth dressing would be easier to use.

Add the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise and a pinch of salt into the same bowl.

Optionally, if you are making a dip for your vegetables, add a few tablespoons of water to make the dressing more runny.

Mix the sauce thoroughly with a fork or spoon and taste to see if you need to add more salt or if too salty, add a bit more of the yogurt. It is a great recipe in this way that it is easy to adjust it to your taste by constantly taste it and add ingredients as needed. The result should be creamy, slightly tangy, and full of bold blue cheese flavour.

Cover your bowl with a bee wax wrap or other food safe covering and chill in the fridge until you need it. This will let the flavours meld together and make the dressing taste even better.

Substitutes

I use full fat Greek yogurt for this recipe, but it works with other fat free or less fat options as well. The same goes for the mayonnaise. I add the mayonnaise for a bit more creamy texture, but you can use less of it.

Freezable

Unfortunately this creamy sauce does not freeze very well. But because it comes together so quick you do not need a freezer back up.

Big Batch Cooking Tips

For a larger gathering, you can make this sauce a day head and keep it in an airtight container in the fridge. When serving, pour it into a nice bowl and put the rest back in the fridge until you have to refill the bowl.
