Easy apple turnovers

Warm apple turnovers straight from the oven are deliciously irresistible. Crisp, golden puff pastry wrapped around soft, cinnamon scented apples feels like something that should take much more effort than it actually does.

Ingredients

  • 320 g Puff pastry 35 x 23 cm
  • 2 red apples
  • 25 g butter
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 egg

Optional

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  • Set the oven to 175 °C (347 °F)
  • Wash and core 2 red apples. Leave the peel on for the apple to keep its structure.
  • Cut the apples into smaller pieces.
  • Melt 25 g butter in a pan. Add 1 tbsp cinnamon, 2 tbsp brown sugar, and A pinch of salt.
  • Once all mixed, add the apple pieces, cook for about seven minutes until soft. The time depends on the size of your pieces.
  • Leave to the side to cool.
  • Unroll 320 g Puff pastry, cut it in ten equal pieces. If you have the same measurements as I 35 x 23 cm, then each rectangular piece will be 7 x 11,5 cm.
  • Add your cooled apple pieces to half of the puff pastry rectangles.
  • Add a second piece of puff pastry and press the two pieces together.
  • Use a fork to press together the edges to the two pieces.
  • Crack 1 egg in a bowl and a smidge of water, use a fork to whisk the egg wash together.
  • Use a pastry brush to brush the pastry with the egg wash.
  • Bake in the oven for 14 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve hot with Vanilla ice cream or Whipped cream. Or serve cold as an easy hand held snack.
